So it looks like two generations into the future isn’t quite far enough for sims to have formed diplomatic relations with extra-terrestrial life. The aliens still come to Oasis Landing for abductions.
Maybe the sim government has allowed the aliens a maximum quota of abductions…
I finally got my copy of Into the Future this week, and I was anxious to try it out. Many of my sims learn the gardening skill and spend a lot of time tending their gardens, and being able to finally place gardens indoors was one feature that I’ve been waiting for. But the first sim I sent to the future didn’t quite get how to harvest watermelons from a plant she found in Oasis Landing.
There must be a cloaking device installed that offsets the plant’s true location to non-sims.
My sim was building up the free Hobart’s Hideaway resort on Isla Paradiso this month. The improvements were good enough that a family of ghosts arrived to spend some vacation time there. But when it was time to leave, each of them went a different direction, like this ghost who chose a personal watercraft to depart.
Maybe now that he’s warmed up at the resort, he won’t have the teeth chattering moodlet so much from his frozen death.
Sim behaviors change for the odd on nights when there is a full moon. Not only do zombies randomly emerge from the ground (sometimes in places where they can’t find an escape path), and sims will spontaneously kiss or slap other sims, but they will also choose completely inappropriate clothing for the task at hand.
I guess she just wants to be ready for the monthly zombie sim apocalypse.
It took fourteen years since the first Sims game to finally get a staircase that is not either completely straight or spiral. The new Prism Art Studio venue released on February 6 includes this little gem…
The new venue is normally priced at 1900 sim points (about $20), so it may be a while before I get it, considering that I just used the 14th anniversary sale to finally buy Pets and Into The Future. These stairs don’t appear to be available separately yet; at least they aren’t listed in the stairs category in the store yet.
I’m still waiting for the ability to curve staircases so I can have those grand sweeping stairs for my Sim mansions, but this is getting closer. What I really need for my everyday sims is the ability to stack straight staircases so I can have my basement stairs descend under my second-story stairs as they are often built in real life.
You remember when Terry Jones made appearances in various episodes of Monty Python’s Flying Circus as a naked pianist? (yes, Terry Gilliam was the first in this role; I wouldn’t be a Pythonist if I didn’t know that…) Benjamin wanted to try that out too.

Benjamin finished his chess practice, but there’s still plenty of time before the party. So he headed down to the art room to make a sculpture or two.

Benjamin just shared a shower with his wife, but when he got out, he decided to go around the house as he was rather than put on his everyday clothes.
Nobody in the household seemed to mind, and his daughter’s birthday party isn’t for another 11 sim hours, so why not practice chess?
With the exception of the baby (the “pupa” stage) of sims lifetimes, each life stage has objects and interactions that will help them build skills for later life. Toddlers can play with the xylophone and peg box to learn creativity and logic skills. Children can play with the building blocks table and the toy stove to learn handiness and cooking skills; children can also read books to increase any skill that has a book available for it.
All of the object interactions will get your toddler and child sims up to skill level three, while reading books will get your child sims up to as high as you’ve got books in your bookshelf, potentially to level ten.
So, after teaching your toddler sims how to walk, talk and use the potty, have them play with the xylophone and peg box to max out those skills before aging them up. Likewise, have your child sims play with the blocks and read to maximize the skills that you want them to have before aging them up. Unfortunately, even though the blocks table looks exactly like the same item that is available in The Sims 2, here in The Sims 3, toddler sims cannot play with blocks, and the draw interaction to make artworks (which also helped with the painting skill in The Sims 2) was removed for both age groups.
Once your sims become teens, they can ask adults to help them learn how to drive (if you’ve got the Generations expansion pack installed), but teens can cook on the stove and play musical instruments, so have them work on those skills while they have time. Teens, of course, can also read to improve their skills.
All of this skill building while your sims are growing will help them once they become young adults because they’ll be farther along at all the skills you had them develop. With the University Life expansion pack, the scholarships that are available to sims are based on their skill levels, so there is a bonus there too.
Edith visited the museum at Champs Les Sims recently. One of the exhibits there showed off a rather strange talent.
The terra cotta army exhibit is on the second floor of the museum, but when you page down to the ground level, the exhibit is still visible, floating above the museum. Whoops!
We know that aliens were introduced to The Sims 3 with the Seasons expansion pack. We also know, from previous sightings, that aliens like to travel to the vacation worlds. But I thought they used their own spaceships to get around town and not the default scooter in Champs Les Sims.
He probably didn’t have enough tea and not tea to power his infinite improbability drive.
Katharine came back from the potty to play with her peg box a little more. The only problem is that she sat on the wrong side facing away from it.
She’s still playing with the toy and learning logic, so it’s not all that bad…
